National Institute of Siddha (NIS) Started a Siddha treatment facility for COVID-19 at SRM University campus, Kattankulathur, along with Chengalpattu district administration on 20/08/2020.This Covid Care Center will facilitate exclusive Siddha management for COVID-19 patients. The entire globe is facing a dangerous pandemic due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The medical and scientific community is trying to figure out and adopt effective strategies that can lead to (i) prevention of virus spread (ii) identifying medications for the management of critical care and reducing rates of mortality; and (iii) finally discovering the highly anticipated vaccine. Novel coronavirus of COVID-19 is the most deadly form of corona virus which has caused pandemic across the world. Plant medicines are in use since ages by the mankind in order to treat and cure various diseases. They are the best possible tools in order to tackle the disease as they have lowest possible side effects as compared to other forms of drugs available and in use to treat the diseases. Traditional Indian medicine has a lot to offer in the management of COVID-19 and it is, therefore, an opportune time for modern medicine and AYUSH to come together and develop an integrated approach for the management of COVID-19. Modern medicine contributes to the curative aspect of COVID -19 while traditional medicine can contribute to prophylaxis and adjuvant for the treatment of infection. Currently, National Institute of Siddha (NIS) is engaged in conducting clinical studies of Siddha drugs for the management of COVID-19. The results are promising.
