The Department of Pothu Maruthuvam, National Institute of Siddha Observed World Kidney Day on 12th March 2026 and successfully conducted a Public Awareness Program aimed at educating the public about kidney health and disease prevention. The event was organized under the esteemed guidance of Prof. Dr. G. Senthilvel MD(S), Ph.D, Director, NIS and with the valuable mentorship of Prof. Dr. H. Vetha Merlin Kumari MD(S)Ph.D, HOD, Department of Pothu Maruthuvam, NIS

The program witnessed the enthusiastic participation of nearly 100 attendees from public, making it an impactful awareness initiative.

The program began with an introduction by Dr. A. Harini, Second year PG Scholar, Department of Pothu Maruthuvam, highlighting the importance of kidney health and the significance of World Kidney Day.

Renal Calculi: Presented by Dr. Vidya, Internee,NIS (Velumailu Siddha Medical College and Hospital, Sriperumbudur)

Urinary Tract Infection: Presented by Dr. Roshini, Internee, NIS (Velumailu Siddha Medical College and Hospital, Sriperumbudur.)

Chronic Kidney Disease: Presented by Dr. Tharini, Internee, NIS (Velumailu Siddha Medical College and Hospital, Sriperumbudur)

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Presented by Dr. Sivanesh Pranav, Internee, NIS (ATSVS Siddha Medical College and Hospital, Munchirai.)

Dietary and Medical Advice: A comprehensive session on kidney-friendly diet and medical guidance was delivered by Dr. Nandhini,Second PG Scholar, Department of Maruthuvam.

Seasonal Health Guidance: Dr. Saru Bala, Internee, NIS (Velumailu Siddha medical College and Hospital, Sriperumbudur) provided insights on “Kaala Ozhukkam” for the current season (Pinpani Kaalam), emphasizing lifestyle practices recommended in Siddha medicine to maintain health and prevent diseases.
