To commemorate the cervical cancer awareness month, a free cancer cervix awareness programme with screening camp, jointly organized by Department of Maruthuvam, National Institute of Siddha and Adyar Cancer Institute (WIA) was held on 31.1.2023 in the Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, New OP building, National Institute of Siddha.
Dr.T. Lakshmi kantham, Head of the Department (i/c), Department of Maruthuvam, welcomed the gathering and guest of honour. The programme was inaugurated with Inaugural address by Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari, Director, National Institute of Siddha, Director General (Addl.charge), CCRS, Chennai, emphasizing the need of early screening and detection of the disease for a healthy living.
An awareness talk on early cancer cervix screening and educating the importance of its detection was given by Dr. P. Pramila Grace, Medical Officer, Preventive Oncology Department, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar. Women above 40 years of age were motivated to undergo regular self breast examination and yearly investigatory cancer examination. The awareness programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. H.Vetha Merlin kumari, Associate Professor, Department of Maruthuvam.
Nearly 70 people attended the awareness programme and free cancer cervix screening was done for 31 patients. Dr.B.R.Senthil kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiology, Dr. I. Aishwarya, Assistant Professor, Department of Maruthuvam, Dr. Nijavizhi, Medical Officer, coordinated in the successful execution of the awareness programme.
