National Institute of Siddha (NIS) organized “14th Workshop on Basic Research Techniques and Laboratory Animal Care” from 29th July to 02nd August, 2024 (5 days) for Ph.D. and PG scholars of NIS. During the course of the training the students learned to handle and administer drug to lab animal (rat). They also learnt about induction and monitoring of anesthesia for procedure in rat. They were also trained to perform necropsy using CCSEA guidelines. Sessions were organized regarding toxicological screening with respect to the guidelines to enhance the knowledge of researchers to plan future studies. On the 4th day of the Workshop (01.08.2024), the trainees visited the International Institute of Biotechnology and Toxicology (IIBAT) at Padappai, Chennai and explored the high end laboratory instruments such as HPTLC, GC-MS/MS used for material identification and characterization. The Valedictory function of the Workshop is held on 02.08.2024. The Director of NIS, Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari presided over and delivered the felicitation address. The Technical Officer of V-C office of TANUVAS, Prof. Dr. Venkataramanan delivered a felicitation address and distributed the certificate to the trainees. The entire Workshop was organized and coordinated by Dr. V. Suba, In-charge, Animal facility, NIS, Dr. B. R. Senthilkumar, Member Secretary, IAEC and Dr. Reshmee V. Thomas, Veterinarian. Dr. Shakthi Parkavi, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Noi Naadal coordinated the Valedictory function.
