Prof. Dr. G. Senthilvel MD (Siddha), Ph.D., is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator with over 25 years of expertise in Siddha medicine. Throughout his decades of endeavours under private and government engagements in India and abroad he has been instrumental in blending traditional Siddha practices with contemporary healthcare systems. His extensive contributions to academics, research, international collaborations, and administrative leadership have significantly contributed to the global stature of Siddha medicine.
Academic and Research Excellence: Dr.G. Senthilvel has mentored a number of postgraduate students, guided them in clinical trials to foster evidence-based Siddha practices. His research contributions include projects such as drug standardization of herbo-mineral and herbo-metallic medicines under the Ministry of AYUSH and collaborations with prominent institutions like Anna University, Banaras Hindu University, and BITS Pilani. He has also facilitated interdisciplinary research and transliteration of ancient Tamil manuscripts, ensuring the preservation and modernization of Siddha knowledge.
During his tenure in Malaysia, with his proven acumen in varmam therapy he had contributed not only in clinical side but also ventures into conducting teaching sessions, and engaging in collaborative research. His scholarly contributions include acclaimed publications such as Principles and Practice of Siddhar Yogam and A Complete Manual on External Therapies, which have become essential resources for students, practitioners, and researchers. His research findings on Siddha diagnostic techniques and therapies are well-recognized in peer-reviewed journals.
Administrative Leadership: As an experienced administrator, Dr.G.Senthilvel has been pivotal in the development of Siddha institutions. At the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), he spearheaded collaborative studies with WHO and NACO, enhancing the global visibility of Siddha medicine. At National Institute of Siddha (NIS), his leadership has been instrumental in establishing full-scale pharmacies, creating operational guidelines for new Siddha centers, and ensuring compliance with ethical standards for clinical trials.He has also served as Member Secretary for Institutional Ethical Committee, upholding the highest standards of research ethics. His contributions include organizing major national events like the 7th Siddha Day celebrations and leading outreach programs such as millet awareness and obesity prevention campaigns. These initiatives reflect his commitment to public health and the promotion of Siddha medicine as a holistic healthcare system.
Global Engagement and Milestones: Dr.G.Senthilvel’s international experience, particularly in Malaysia, underscores his ability to integrate Siddha therapies into diverse healthcare frameworks. He represented India at numerous global events, including the Tradalth International Conference in collaboration with ministry of AYUSH in Kuala Lumpur and the International AYUSH Conference in Dubai, promoting Siddha medicine on a global stage.
Among his many accomplishments, his contribution to WHO-sponsored Standard Treatment Guidelines for 30 common diseases, initiation of the establishment of the Siddha Varma Center of Excellence in Kanyakumari, efforts to obtain a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Pooneeru and facilitating international collaborations has further solidified Siddha medicine’s reputation as a globally relevant traditional medical system.
Publications, Awards, and Recognitions: Dr.G.Senthilvel has authored over 15 books and monographs, including A Handbook of Common Siddha Kayakalpa Herbs for Healthy Life and Monograph on Psoriasis – 777 Oil, which have become cornerstones of Siddha medicine education and practice. His scholarly output emphasizes the scientific rigor and therapeutic value of Siddha medicine, bridging traditional knowledge with modern healthcare approaches.
His efforts have been recognized through multiple national and international accolades, including commendations for his leadership in digitizing Indian systems of medicine and representing Siddha medicine in global delegations.
