Department of Gunapadam, NIS has organized a National Seminar on “Glimpses on Significance of Metals & Minerals in Gunapadam” on 25.11.2022 at Multipurpose Hall, National Institute of Siddha. The seminar was formally inaugurated by Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari, Director, NIS & Director General, (Additional charge), CCRS.
The event started with Invocation. Dr. S. Sudha Revathi, Assistant professor, Gunapadam welcomed the gathering.
 
In this event, a book entitled குண பாடம் – தாது ( தாதுக்களின் விளக்கமும் மருந்து முறைகளும்) Gunapadam- Thathu (Thathukkalin Vilakkamum Marunthu Muraikalum) authored by the Siddha Legend (Late) Professor. Dr. I. Sornamariyammal & Co – author Dr. S. Ilango, Sivasakthi Pharmacy, has been released by the Veteran Professor Dr. Jayaprakash Narayanan and first copy received by Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari.
 
(Rtd) Prof. K. Kathirvel, Dept.of Geology, VOC, Thoothukudi, Dr. G. Sivaraman, Member, State Planning Commission, Tamilnadu & Managing Director, Arogya Health Care, Chennai and Dr. S. Ilango, Sivasakthi Pharmacy, Coimbatore graced the occasion.
 
In this book, the author explained in detail about natural sources of metals and minerals and it’s geological nature, originality, identification characters with images , importance in Siddha medicine preparation, etc. The family members of Prof. Dr. I. Sornamariyammal Mr. Venkadachalapathy, Dr. Sathyanath and Mr. Madhusoothanan also participated and honoured the dignitaries with shawls. NIS taken a step to release Madam’s book and made her dreams comes true. This book is a boon to young Siddha practitioners. NIS is proud to publish the book and makes the event a big success.
 
Technical session was conducted with experienced invited speakers like Prof. Dr. S. K. Sasi, GSMC, Chennai, Dr. B. Michael Jeyarai, Editor- Karpa Avzhtham, Dr. K. Anbarasu, Asst. Medical Officer and Dr. J. Sriram, Lecturer, GSMC, Palayamkottai.
 
The invited guest speakers delivered Lectures about the usage of Metals and Minerals in Siddha preparations, it’s challenges in identification, collection, purification, preparation and uniqueness.
Faculties, UG students, PG Scholars, PhD Scholars, Siddha practitioners from various Siddha institutions namely National Institute of Siddha, Govt. Siddha Medical college, Sri Sairam Siddha Medical college and Velumailu Siddha Medical college actively participated and benefitted.
