National Institute of Siddha conducted an Intellectual Property Rights Awareness programme on 21/07/22 between 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM. The Introductory address was given by the Director Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari M.D(S), Director, NIS. Director highlighted the importance of carrying out drug developments in Siddha Medicine and emphasized the need for protection of intellectual property rights. The Director also pointed out that requisite steps have already been initiated to formulate IPR policy of the institute and for creation of IPR Cell.

Two guest lectures have been scheduled for this programme. First Lecture was given by Mr. Ramesh Kannan, Patent Attorney & Patent agent, QUADRIGA on the topic “Introduction to IPR and Patent filing”. After a small refreshment break, the second lecture was given by Dr. Thomas M. Walter, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Physiology, Govt. Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai on the topic “Intellectual Property rights of AYUSH drugs”. After the lectures, interactive sessions were held with Guest speakers. Two hundred participants attended the programme which includes faculties, Medical officers and PG scholars of this institute.
